Luckily I jumped on a fire estinguisher that was WAY further than it should have been (50ft away or so), while my friend jumped on a bucket of water than was closer but not enough and we managed to kill the fire after only 20 to 30s... I’m still shaking as I type this and it happened over 1h ago :)
Rule number one, do not do a compression test with the spark plug attached on the side of the engine when you JUST tested an injector and some gas went on the said engine. That was stupid, I know...
But well, the car is fine, some electrical wires got burned down and will need to be replaced but that’s all. We got quite lucky on this one...

Glad you and the ride are A-OK. Even after a fire your engine bay seems to be cleaner than mine for some reason! :D

haha, well, 5 to 10 liters of water thrown onto an engine do that shiny effect in general :)

I must also get a fire extinguisher for my garage, and some more for my house. I work at a large mine at the diesel equipment shop. We once had a D11 start on fire just because some mechanics where using a small torch to shrink wrap some wiring repair. It doesn’t take much oil for a fire to flash start. The mechanics acted quickly and only had to go 10 ft to the nearest extinguisher. I am glad Flavien got lucky as well. Fire is some scary stuff when it starts unexpectedly.

My tired brain read your title as:
Well the DS I bought almost burned Japan to the ground.

So on the bright side, you got an unplanned engine detailing!

Yeah I’ve got a habit of de-greasing metal prior to welding with meths/white spirit and then setting light to the little meth-soaked kitchen roll sections.
Not a good game to get into...
